Dedham Historical Society Lecture - Charles Slack, Author

Charles Slack, Author

 Sunday, March 6, 2016 @ 2PM

Lecture and Book Signing: “Liberty’s First Crisis:

Adams, Jefferson and the Misfits Who Saved Free Speech”

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the 1789 Sedition Act, it was a piece of legislation passed by Congress and signed by President John Adams. In its basic essence, the act made it a crime to criticize the U.S. government. Charles Slack brings to life the politics of the time and the impact of this legislation through the words and actions of John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and others. We thought this lecture quite appropriate during a presidential election year when the civil rights of U.S. citizens, immigrants, and migrants are a major topic of discussion.

Price: All lectures are free for Dedham Historical Society & Museum members. Non-members $5.00.

Where: Lectures are held at the Dedham Historical Society & Museum Auditorium; 612 High Street, Dedham MA.
